Belshina Drift Competitions of Ukraine 3 этап 30.07.17 English Version
Time attack is always good, but sometimes you need to switch yourself to something different... 29-30.07 took place the 3rd stage of Belshina Drift Competitions of Ukraine in Odessa. Pilots came from all around the Ukraine and also participated Sergey Sak from Belarus and Marek Wartalowicz from Poland.
Our team for the first time visited drift as a media. We breathed the smoke from the wheels, met pilots, watched spectacular rounds and we were just having fun for two days in a row.
First day was qualifying day. To get the best result of qualification, competitors trained from morning till noon.
Unfortunately, not everyone got the chance to show their skills in qualifying: pilot from Vinnytsia Ruslan Shevchuk damaged his car by crashing into a concrete block on a training session. Also, during the qualification, Sergey Sak crashed BMW, which he borrowed from Dima Goncharuk. Nevertheless both competitors passed qualifying session and competed further, using other cars. By the way, Sak changed cars around 4 times during the whole racing weekend. His first car - Nissan 200SX, broke down in training. There were many pilots, who showed high-quality and spectacular drift, though the first qualifying place took pilot from No Motors team - Maxim Miller (Toyota Altezza). It's his first victory in qualification this season, and considering, that this is his first season as a competitor, this is an amazing result. 2nd place took guest from Poland - Marek (BMW E21), and 3rd place was given to Sergey Kremets, who also presents No Motors team and is the only one Ukrainian drifter who drives the Mercedes in competitions.
As the double illumination bracket was formed, on Sunday morning pilots were driving the training sessions with their opponents. At noon all of the competitors went on the track for opening ceremony. It makes spectators happy because it's the only opportunity to take pictures with pilots and to chat with them.
Finally, it's time to see tandems. First to go was the lower bracket and after went the upper bracket where judges decided who goes further and who "falls" down to use his second chance.
Organizers promised us all the night drift. They prepared a lot of light equipment, and so starting from 7pm, when pilots were competing in top 8, it became darker. It began what everybody's been waiting for....
Around 1am rounds ended. There were many "One more time-s" and in the top 2 the intrigue held to the last, because Marek Wartalowicz and Vitaliy Nykyforov met at the track. Both pilots drove insanely cool and qualitatively: lot of smoke, wide trajectories and loud cheers of impressed spectators were the proof. So, finally as people gathered by the podium, the rewarding ceremony began: 3rd place - Sergey Kremets, 2nd place - Marek Wartalowicz and 1st place - Vytaliy Nykyforov.
Congratulations to the winners and thanks to organizers for nice weekend.
